Taking time off from a crazy schedule to officially welcome my favorite month of the year! Ahh, sweet September!
September to me brings in mind lots of warm memories. In the Philippines, it kicks off the Christmas season. For most Filipinos, September - the first of the "ber" months - ushers in the cool crisp air (sans the typhoons hopefully ) and reminds us that Christmas is drawing very near. On my home yesterday, I heard the first Christmas song played on the radio, and I just had to smile...
Although I am not really keen on starting Christmas this early, just thinking of the joyful season now visible in the horizon gives one a warm feeling.
But September to me is like New Year, for some reason. September always brings new things for me, my life cleansed like a fresh canvas waiting to be splashed with paint. In some parts of the world, September starts the season of Fall. My favorite season (aside from spring) because nature displays all its passionate colors -- red, yellow, orange -- in trees and falling leaves. What a beautiful sight even in pictures. I hope to see autumn in the flesh someday.
Although, September's autumn signifies change and dying, to me it is rebirth...the letting go of old things to give way to the new. What a blessing that is. After all, we cannot receive anything new if our inbox is full.
Ah September, what promises you hold for all of us despairing. In a special way I remember today my dear sister Ruby. I know August has been so ladened with trials for you and your family. Yes, I am one with you in hoping that September will be much kinder. May this month usher in a strong hope. A new beginning. May September be our best friend.
To start the month right, I treated my self to a pesto pasta I haven't had in a long time. I have Rochelle to thank for introducing me to the wonderful world of basil, olive oil, and pine nuts. I thank God for simple joys like this.
September does bring in lots of these simple joys and pleasant surprises. So, I guess I will never understand why someone wants to be woken up only "when September ends." Whereas I, I want to be fully awake to enjoy the fruits this month will bring!
Welcome my sweet September! :)
